Clear answers and honest advice to help you make the best decisions for your vehicle.
General Shop Questions —
Do I need to make an appointment for service?
No. At Charlie’s, we value your time and know that car trouble doesn’t always happen on a schedule. We operate on a first-come, first-served basis. This allows us to keep the line moving and get our customers back on the road much faster than a traditional dealership that might be booked out for weeks. Just pull up to the shop, and we’ll get to work.
Will you install tires that I didn’t purchase from you?
Yes! While we offer a great selection of tires in-house (and provide lifetime rotations and flat repairs on any tires purchased from us), we can also install, balance, and mount tires you purchased elsewhere.
Do you perform engine or transmission rebuilds?
To ensure the highest level of reliability and to get you back on the road as quickly as possible, we focus on the installation of high-quality new or remanufactured engines and transmissions rather than in-house rebuilds. Rebuilding a major component can keep your car in the shop for weeks; our replacement approach provides you with a faster turnaround and, in most cases, a superior nationwide warranty.
Maintenance & Timelines —
How often should I have my tires rotated?
To get the most life out of your tires and ensure a smooth ride, we recommend a tire rotation every 5,000 to 8,000 miles. A great rule of thumb is to have them rotated every time you come in for an oil change. Remember, if you bought your tires at Charlie’s, this service is free for the life of the tires!
When should I get my oil changed?
Most modern vehicles require an oil change every 5,000 to 7,500 miles, depending on the type of oil used (synthetic vs. conventional) and your driving habits. Regular oil changes are the simplest and most effective way to prevent major engine damage.
My "Check Engine" light is on. How long can I drive with it?
If your check engine light is on, your car’s computer has detected an issue that could affect performance or emissions. If the light is steady, you should bring it in for a computerized diagnostic as soon as possible to prevent a small issue from becoming a large, expensive repair. If the light is flashing, pull over safely and stop driving immediately, as this indicates a serious problem that could damage your engine.
How often should I have my brakes inspected?
We recommend a brake inspection at least once a year or whenever you have your tires rotated. However, if you hear squealing, feel a vibration when braking, or notice your car taking longer to stop, bring it in immediately for a safety check.
Have a Different Question? —
We believe in transparency and education. If you have a question about a specific sound your car is making or a quote you’ve received elsewhere, give us a call or stop by the shop. We’re here to provide the honest, "old-fashioned" advice you deserve.
